Hello my friends! As you know, on this page, I share my love of tarot, ogham, and the runes. These are all modalities to practice the ancient and magickal art of divination.
What is divination?
According to the online Oxford dictionary, the definition of divination is as follows: “the practice of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by supernatural means.”
It is really in the richness of the unknown that we find the true power of divination, as shining a light on what was hidden helps us to create the future we wish to experience and share. Divination is that light, and there are many ways to do this. A small list would include:
tarot cards
runes
ogham
eggs
coffe grinds
tea leaves
leaves
stones
clouds
dreams
candle wax
and for our article today, DICE!
Some methods of divination are deep, complex, and nuanced, such as tarot. And some forms are simple, playful, and are often a mix of divination and games.
And that is where dice come in.
In this article, I will demonstrate a simple dice divination method that I learned from Katie from The Witchery.
This method calls for three dice, a small dish or plate to shake the dice in, and a larger plate to throw the dice. Some sources say you use a china plate for this, but if you don’t have that, any plate that feels good for you will do.
To ask a question, you make a wish! This could be to wish for love, wealth, health, joy, peace, an amazing Furby collection, or anything else that makes your heart go pitter-pat.
Think of your wish as you shake the dice in your little dish or plate. Then when you feel ready, toss the dice so they land on the bigger plate.
Any dice that fall off the plate are not to be counted.
Count the sum of the dice that land on the plate.
So let’s say you wished for more romance in your relationship. You shake the dice, all three land on the plate, and you get 5, 2, and 6. That adds up to 13.
According to the write-up in this dice set from the Witchery, 13 means, “Self-pity causes delays and hassles.”
Wow, looks like dice can read us for filth and call us out just like tarot!
This would tell us that if we want our wish to succeed, we have got to cut the self-pity.
Let’s say that this leads you to another wish. This wish could be to have more confidence and less self-pity so you can have that juicy sexy love!
Shakey shakey of the dice, and you get 6, 2, and 1. This adds up to 9. 9 means “success in love and reconciliation.”
Boom. Now you have had some fun rolling the dice, got called out lovingly and efficiently, and have the guidance and path needed to have more romance in your relationship!
This is the set I am using, which is the Baltic Amber Divination Dice set from the Witchery. Amber itself is beautiful to work with and to wear for many things, but is great for divination because it repels evil and attracts love and good fortune. And if readings are meant to discover the unknown and to create a beautiful future, then amber is indeed a powerful tool to incorporate into our readings!
