Weekly Guidance with the rune Tiwaz
Hello my friends! I hope you’re having a great start to your week.
This week, our weekly guidance comes to us from the rune Tiwaz.
Keywords: sacrifice, integrity, honour, victory.
Tiwaz is associated with the Norse god Tyr, who sacrificed his hand so that wolf Fenrir could be bound. Tyr is seen as a god of warriors and justice.
In the Old English Rune Poem, Tiwaz is described as the following:
“Tiw is a guiding star; well does it keep faith with princes; it is ever on its course over the mists of night and never fails.”
Together, let’s explore how these associations shape the rune Tiwaz, and how we can shape a great week with this guidance.
First off, we can explore the concept of the god Tyr. As a god of justice, he encourages us to act in a just way. Moving ahead, victory is assured, as though Tyr lost his hand, the goal of binding Fenrir was successful. This tells us that we will be successful in our endeavours, as long as we make the necessary sacrifices and act with honour and integrity.
Does that mean you have to sacrifice your hand? No. But it does mean that some sacrifices may have to be made this week in order to succeed. But as a rune of victory, if you do this, you will be successful.
Regarding the Old English Rune Poem, we see Tiwaz as a guiding star, ever on its course. I find that this rune encourages us to stay on the path we know is in our highest good, not the easiest path. No short cuts, no roundabout ways to avoid the work. Staying true to the our own guiding stars of our calling is what is called for here.
Moving forward this week, notice if there’s temptation to take short-cuts, call it quits, or not show up. Tiwaz shows you that you will be successful, even if it’s hard, even if you’re having doubts. Take this as a sign that you’re on the path of victory, you just need to be a class act and put in some elbow grease to get there.
This rune makes me think of a quote I love, which is “work delayed is work doubled.” When we take short cuts, or take the easy way out, we often create more work and head ache for ourselves. How much time is wasted searching for the quick and easy instead of just rolling up our sleeves and committing?
Sacrifices we may have to make for this victory could be sacrificing our ego and going to couple’s counselling with our partner, or perhaps saying sorry. Perhaps to open more rewarding career and financial opportunities, you may have to sacrifice time, effort, and money to go back to school. Perhaps you need to sacrifice watching another Netflix show so you can do your work out.
If we don’t make these sacrifices, then that potentially awesome relationship with the partner could end, we could stay stuck
in a career situation we dislike with few options, or never achieve those fitness goals.
To me, sacrifice is more like a personal investment. When it’s hard, I remember Tyr, and know that I can do it, even if it’s hard. These challenges can shape us into bad ass risk takers, hard workers, driven professionals, educated individuals, fabulous partners, authors, musicians, etc etc. To me, not doing the hard work sacrifices all the juicy rewards that come. In this way, we can see sacrifice not as something we lose, but as something we gain.
Alright my friends, may the strength of Tiwaz be with you!
Have a beautiful week,
xo Jenny aka the Mermaid Mystic
